Wines from Portugal are split into two categories they grow Cabernet Sauvignon and chardonnay as well as their own native grape varieties With Portugal’s native grape varieties they have concentrated and developed some outstanding wine made of Portugal’s own grape varieties
grape varieties include white fernao pires, loureiro, and alvarinho and red grape varieties such as periquita, and baga they also have their own port varieties such as Touriga nacional and touriga francesa
Portugal Alentejo
Alentejo is a fast growing wine region which is all along the south of Portugal and is one of the most dynamic wine areas producing fruity red wine at low prices which make this wine producing region in Portugal
Bairrada lies just to the west of the dao region in Portugal this wine region has become very popular in recent years. The Bairrada region produces the baga grape which produces wines with a peppery, blackcurrent and blackberry flavour white wines from the bairrada region in are not as well known the grape variety produced is white bairrada which has an herb and fennel character. Red wines from Bairrada tend to be made to last and age
Douro valley under half of the grapes grown are generally made into port, the rest of the grapes are mainly used for table wine except for the barca valley which is generally considered to be douro, s first growth. Some port houses are starting to make some very good spicy, fruity velvety wines
